Election Season Up and Running

Hello all potential candidates/campaign managers/treasurers/various campaign officials!

As you all know, the JSA election season is upon us. For those of you who’ve already run a campaign, you know that it can be the most fun and stressful experience you’ll have in high school. While running a campaign for the first time can sound daunting, the Fair Elections Commission, comprised of your regional senate, is here to answer questions and guide you on your totally righteous journey into JSA legend.

Here are the various elected positions:

 

Governor
The Governor is the chief executive officer of the state. The Governor is directly responsible for the success of the Junior State and must be very experienced in the Junior State and have knowledge regarding all aspects of the Junior State. The time commitment is extensive, totaling at least 20 hours a week.
Lieutenant Governor
The Lieutenant Governor is second in command of the state and serves as the President of the Senate. The Lieutenant Governor and the Governor must have a good working relationship and high mutual respect. The time commitment is extensive, totaling nearly 20 hours a week.
Speaker of the Assembly
The Speaker is the director of the State’s political activism agenda. The Speaker’s official responsibilities include governing the State Assembly, which is composed of elected and
appointed members of each chapter, and assisting the Assembly in the formulation of an annual platform that reflects the views of the entire Junior State
Mayor
The Mayors are the chief executive officers of the regions.
Vice Mayor
The Vice Mayor is second in command of the region. A good working relationship must exist between the Mayor and Vice Mayor in order to meet the goals of the region.
Senator (2 per region)
The Senators represent the regions in the Senate, formulating legislation, evaluating various Junior State events, and serving on the State Fair Elections Committee.
If you wish to run for any of these positions, you must either email (senate@socal.jsa.org) or hand-deliver to a member of the FEC (at Winter Congress or another regional event), a signed 2013 Candidate Declaration form. You will not be permitted to begin campaigning until this form has been turned in, this includes announcing one’s campaign at Winter Congress.
